Solar PV Installation

Our on-site solar PV installation comprises 1,296 panels (544.32 kWp) installed in 2023, generating renewable electricity directly at source to offset a meaningful proportion of our daytime operational demand. The system supports energy-intensive manufacturing processes while reducing reliance on grid electricity and lowering associated Scope 2 carbon emissions, reinforcing our long-term commitment to carbon responsible manufacturing. In practical terms, the solar installation helps stabilise energy costs, improve energy resilience, and ensures that a growing proportion of the power used to manufacture our doorsets is clean, locally generated, and visibly aligned with the environmental expectations of our clients and workforce.

Biomass Heating System

Our factory is heated by a 300 kW biomass boiler installation, commissioned in 2017, which provides space heating to all production areas of the facility. The system replaces traditional fossil-fuel heating by using biomass fuel derived from clean timber offcuts generated by our own production processes, reducing the site’s operational carbon emissions and forming a core part of Principal Doorsets’ journey toward carbon neutrality. Beyond carbon reduction, the biomass system delivers a more stable and evenly distributed heat across the factory, improving thermal comfort for our teams during colder months and supporting safer, more consistent working conditions on the shop floor.
