As the door closes on 2021, we have been reflecting on what has been our busiest year so far.

It began with a high demand for residential, hotel, and specialist healthcare doorsets being manufactured in our workshop, which saw our finished goods warehouse filling up very quickly. Production continued to grow and grow throughout the year, which as a result meant we had to lease additional warehousing and begin work on building a 35,000 sq ft warehouse in April.

Towards the end of the year, we installed an auxiliary warehouse in our yard to allow us to store raw materials as we wait for the build to be completed.

As one of the UK’s premier door manufacturers, it’s important that we have the best machinery possible. This year investments in our plant have been made to increase efficiency in our finishing and joinery areas.

The arrival of our 4th SCM accord 25fxm twin bed machine has been a game changer for our joinery section. This provides us greater capacity for more precise routing and drilling as demand for our doorsets remains high. A new dust extraction system for the crucial work within our frame finishing area has been installed along with a new profile sander and SCM Superfici painting line to create outstanding surfaces on our products.

Quality and service has remained at the forefront of all we do at Principal Doorsets. Therefore, as well as investing in machinery and space, investing in our people is of vital importance. The skilled craft of our people really is the difference between a great product and an outstanding one. Much of the work we do is hands on where we give our attention to the technical solutions, finest detail, and finishes.

Door manufacturing in North Devon dates back to the 1800s, with the craft being passed down through the generations. We are passionate about these skills, experience, and techniques and in some ways, we feel like the custodians of this important part of the region’s history. When this is combined with the latest machinery, it’s no surprise that we are able to make outstanding products.

Throughout the year we have continued to work closely with our customers to deliver products for their developments. High end residential doorsets filled our facility during the summer with the doors packed up ready for onsite installation.  The 12 months comes to a close we are completing work for a major healthcare clinic in London.
